Amy has always loved science fiction—books, movies, shows, and games. She was born in San Diego, California, and moved with her family to Vancouver, Washington, at the age of seven. After devouring some of the classics like Dune and Ender's Game in her tween years, she began writing science fiction and fantasy short stories.
In the ensuing years, Amy attended the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, where she continued to study creative writing, visual art and played viola in the school orchestra. During this time, she began the very early sketches of what would eventually evolve into the Cadicle series.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Portland State University, and also pursued minors in Professional Writing and Business Administration. After graduating, she moved to Portland, Oregon, and began working in business development for an energy efficiency consulting firm. Over the next several years, she primarily wrote proposals to prospective utility clients and managed the proposal development process. She then transitioned from energy efficiency into the architectural, engineering and planning industry. However, she eventually succumbed to the writing bug.
Now a full-time author, Amy currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband. When she's not writing, she enjoys travel, wine tasting, binge-watching TV series, and playing epic strategy board games.
VOLUME 1: ARCHITECTS OF DESTINY
ABOUT THE BOOK
A new space opera epic begins...
Cris Sietinen, heir to the most influential High Dynasty in the Taran empire, was born with rare telekinetic gifts—abilities he refuses to ignore, regardless of the governing Priesthood's decrees. Determined to be true to himself, and test the limits of his prohibited abilities, sixteen-year-old Cris escapes his stifled life of business and politics on Tararia to begin a new life exploring the stars.
When Cris unexpectedly receives an invitation to join the Tararian Selective Service (TSS), the only organization to offer a sanctioned telekinesis training program, a new future awaits. It's his dream opportunity to be among people like himself, free from the Priesthood and political objectives. Except, Cris' path was designed, and he's right where the Priesthood wants him.
Architects of Destiny is the first installment in the complete, seven-book Cadicle series, a modern-day space opera epic in the spirit of Golden Age science fiction. This fast-paced space adventure with intrigue, coming-of-age, and romance is a short prequel to the defining events in Tararia's history in the ensuing years.
PLOT SYNOPSIS - Architects of Destiny (Cadicle Vol. 1)
Cris, heir to the Sietinen Dynasty, was born with rare telekinetic gifts—abilities he refuses to ignore, regardless of the governing Priesthood's decrees. At the age of sixteen, Cris decides to run away from Tararia so he can explore his abilities. He assumes a secret identity of Cris Sights. In the course of his travels, he discovers that the state of the galaxy is not what he was led to believe during his sheltered upbringing. There's a great deal of corruption, but those in the positions of power only perpetuate those issues.
After spending a year on a cargo freighter as a navigator, an assassin from the Priesthood attacks Cris, and in self-defense Cris unlocks advanced telekinetic abilities he didn't know he possessed. Following the averted assassination attempt, Cris is offered a training opportunity with the TSS. Cris meets the TSS High Commander, Jason Banks, and is placed on an accelerated training track where the other students know him only as Cris Sights.
Three years later, Cris is now a Junior Agent and meets Kate Vaenetri, an heiress to another High Dynasty and Cris' intended match had he stayed on Tararia. They feel an immediate connection to one another, but Cris waits to reveal his true identity until he knows it's genuine love. When Cris finally does come clean, they realize that the two of them are in a unique political situation where they could change things in the Taran civilization for the better. They ultimately decide to marry but remain in the TSS as Agents until it's time for Cris to assume his rightful position as Head of Sietinen.
Unbeknownst to Cris, the TSS is exactly where the Priesthood wants him. High Commander Banks was tasked with making sure Cris and Kate ended up together and would commit to a life within the TSS. A secret war with the Bakzen is underway in a dimensional rift, and Cris' and Kate's child will play a key role in the war's end.
