Amy has always loved science fiction—books, movies, shows, and games. She was born in San Diego, California, and moved with her family to Vancouver, Washington, at the age of seven. After devouring some of the classics like Dune and Ender's Game in her tween years, she began writing science fiction and fantasy short stories.

In the ensuing years, Amy attended the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, where she continued to study creative writing, visual art and played viola in the school orchestra. During this time, she began the very early sketches of what would eventually evolve into the Cadicle series.

Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Portland State University, and also pursued minors in Professional Writing and Business Administration. After graduating, she moved to Portland, Oregon, and began working in business development for an energy efficiency consulting firm. Over the next several years, she primarily wrote proposals to prospective utility clients and managed the proposal development process. She then transitioned from energy efficiency into the architectural, engineering and planning industry. However, she eventually succumbed to the writing bug.

Now a full-time author, Amy currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband. When she's not writing, she enjoys travel, wine tasting, binge-watching TV series, and playing epic strategy board games.

FAQ

WARNING: This FAQ contains spoilers! It is recommended that you do not read this document until after completing Masters of Fate.

What is the dimensional hierarchy, and what’s in each dimension?

3D – normal physical reality

4D – time

5D – telepathy/thought

6D – Toran’s gauntlets artifact; Saps/Overlords

7D – Kaiden’s circlet; Hoofy and other ‘mythical’ beings (unicorns, dragons, etc.)

8D – Maris’ shield artifact; window maze; nimbuses (nimbuses also have a 7D component)

9D – Elle’s sword artifact; crystalline network connections/storage

10D –Consciousness

11D –Duzies

How does the ‘magic’ work?

The 11D dimensionally ubiquitous, zepto-elemental singularities (‘Duzies’) enable the apparent magic. The team’s hyperdimensional artifacts concentrated and intensify Duzie energy. Kaiden’s circlet functions like a magic antenna that allows his non-magical staff weapon to become super-saturated with Duzies, making it a concentrated director of magic. As the team’s bodies become saturated by Duzies, they are more readily able to cast their own magic without their artifacts.

Why could only ‘viewing-spheres’ be used for dimensional transitions and not normal crystals?

Crystals only exist in 3D spacetime while viewing-spheres span all dimensions. Crystals are Duzie-saturated normal matter. Viewing-spheres are Duzies in pure solid form.

Do all planets that exist in spacetime also have extended existence in higher dimensions in some form or another?

The planets have a distinct physical presence in 6D, 7D, and 8D. In 5D, 9D, and 10D, all mass is amorphous ‘dark matter’ which supports thought channeling and network storage. In 11D, all matter is pure Duzie-plasma.

Why do Darkness planets have reduced-gravity in normal spacetime?

The anomaly-related, Duzie-powered Darkness draws power from transmutation of planet’s mass, reducing its density but not disturbing its magnetic field or geologic underpinnings.

Why did the anomaly site in space where the aliens first appeared have excess gravity but no apparent mass?

The dimensional-rift anomaly channeled and concentrated normal matter and dark matter gravity from nearby systems across extended dimensions into 3D spacetime at a central point. The 6D aliens used this unique site as a staging ground for their intended invasion from their home plane.
